Xavi has given the green light for the sale of two Barcelona stars – report
With the new season on the horizon, Barcelona need to register their new earnings at the earliest for them to be eligible for the first game of the campaign.
And in order to that, the Blaugrana must speed up their player exit process and make room for the new signings by clearing out players who do not belong in the manager’s plans.
Oscar Mingueza has already left the club while Martin Braithwaite and Riqui Puig could soon follow suit, with the latter considering a potential move to MLS outfit LA Galaxy.
And now SPORT is reporting that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has given the green light for the departures of two more players in Sergino Dest and Memphis Depay.
Dest is the first-choice right-back currently at Barça. However, the club are plotting to sign Cesar Azpilicueta, while Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde and Sergi Roberto are all possible options for the right-back slot.
Thus, Xavi is willing to sell Dest, considering that his age and contract status would help the club bring in significant funds.
Apart from the USMNT defender, the Barcelona manager is also ready to sanction the exit of Memphis Depay. The Netherlands international has fallen down the pecking order of things following the arrivals of Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
With regular game-time no longer a guarantee, Depay has been asked to leave and the player would be willing to depart Camp Nou as well. However, he wants to do so as a free agent, which would mean Barcelona terminating his contract.
The 28-year-old is attracting interest from Juventus in Italy and the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal in England. It remains to be seen if he is willing to consider a return to the Premier League or pushes for Italy.
However, the big question would be if the Blaugrana are willing to sanction his exit as a free agent, with one year left on his contract. For now, though, Xavi has given the club the green light to sell both Depay and Dest.
