Rio Ferdinand pleads for new contract for one Man United player
Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has sent a plea to the club’s management asking that David de Gea be given a new contract at the club with reason based on merit.
This is despite the general belief that the Spain international does not have the feet required to be in Erik ten Hag’s XI.
The Dutch boss, who took over at Manchester United this summer, likes to play out from the back.
De Gea, who is out of contract next summer, has declared his desire to remain at the club but Ten Hag has already signed a new ‘keeper in Martin Dubravka.

“It’s all down to the way Erik ten Hag wants to play football,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“If he wants to play out from the back like he did with Ajax, it’s all about someone who is actually better with their feet.
“David De Gea, that’s not his biggest strength. He’s good enough I think with his feet, but his biggest strength is his shot-stopping,” adding that the Spaniard has been “a world class” ever since he arrived Old Trafford.
Ferdinand still thinks United should give De Gea a fresh deal, adding: ‘I would give him a contract.”
