Raphael Varane breaks silence on teammates interview with Piers Morgan

Manchester United central defender, Raphael Varane has reacted to teammate Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan.

Sunday evening, just hours after Manchester United’s victory over Fulham in extra time at Craven Cottage, United’s number seven unleashed a tirade against his current employees.

In addition to claiming he was betrayed by the club, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed he has no respect for Erik ten Hag, the manager of his club.

Like his former Real Madrid teammate, Varane is currently in Qatar preparing for Sunday’s start of the winter World Cup in Qatar.

However, despite the fact that United’s number 19 should be focused on proving his fitness prior to France’s attempt to defend the trophy, the 29-year-old is being asked about Portugal’s captain.

Varane, a key member of Didier Deschamps’ France team that won the World Cup in Russia four years ago, was asked by Europe 1 about the impact of Ronaldo’s explosive interview.

The four-time winner of the Champions League stated: “Obviously it affects us. We follow what is happening and what is being said.

“We try to calm the situation in our own way, we try not to get too involved in it. What is happening in the media in the big clubs is gaining momentum.

“When it’s a star like Cristiano Ronaldo, even more, so we try to take it with distance, that is to say, that we do not try to change the situation alone, we are part of a collective.

“What I want is the best for my team so whatever the decision, as a player, we will accept it and give the best of ourselves.”

Going forward, Sweden’s national team captain and Manchester United teammate Victor Lindelof avoided answering questions about the 37-year-old.

Speaking to Fotbollskanalen about Ronaldo’s interview, Lindelof said: “I won’t answer that question.”

When asked if United had instructed him to remain silent on the matter, United’s number two responded, “That’s my choice.”
