Potter reveals new position of Chalobah after closed door test in secret friendly
Chelsea new manager, Graham Potter reveals new position of Chalobah after a closed-door test in secret friendly ahead of the coming weekend.
The Athletic reports that Chelsea played a secret behind-closed-doors friendly against Graham Potter’s former side Brighton – and the new boss decided to tinker with the players at his disposal.
The midfield was a particularly interesting choice from him as it featured Trevoh Chalobah who generally played in defense under Thomas Tuchel.
The 23-year-old played a deep-lying role that is usually occupied by Jorginho. He was joined on the pitch by Conor Gallagher and Denis Zakaria who performed as box-to-box midfielders.

In fairness, this is not a totally unfamiliar position for Chalobah. He featured as a defensive midfielder for Chelsea on a few occasions while spending most of his time on loans at Ipswich and Huddersfield in that position. He switched between the roles during his last loan at Lorient in the 2020-21 season.
Chalobah could provide Potter another midfield option, with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic having suffered plenty of injuries in recent months.
However, some reports suggest that the Chelsea academy graduate might want to leave the club in January if he’s not given playing time before the turn of the year.
