Messi to Barcelona is gaining momentum – report
There has been a lot of speculation about Lionel Messi’s future at Paris Saint-Germain beyond the summer of 2023. The 35-year-old superstar will become a free agent next summer and Barcelona are now at the front of the queue to bring him back to Camp Nou.
The Blaugrana let go of their greatest player ever last year as they could not renew his contract due to the club’s financial situation. Having become a free agent, Messi joined PSG on a two-year contract, with an option of an additional twelve months which he can choose to trigger.
Ever since he left Camp Nou, a potential return has been heavily speculated. And while it did not look like a possibility a while ago, things have changed in the past week or so.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta and manager Xavi Hernandez have both talked up the possibility of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner coming back to Camp Nou in 2023 and seeing out the rest of his career at his beloved club.
Now, a fresh report from journalist Ramon Salmurri on Cat Radio claims that Messi’s potential return to Barcelona is starting to gain major momentum, with a comeback likely to be on the cards next year.
Laporta admitted in a recent interview that he is indebted to Messi for everything he gave to the club and would like to bring him back to Camp Nou.
And, as per the update from Ramon Salmurri, the Barcelona president is now motivated to re-sign the Argentina captain, considering as the manner of the superstar’s exit did not sit right with him.
Whether Messi would be open to the possibility of a return to his former stomping ground will be interesting to see. As things stand, though, things are starting to pick up pace as Barça are preparing to bring back their hero to Camp Nou
