Man Utd and Ronaldo reach agreement as Jorge Mendes plan surfaces
After a week of review and counter-attacks, Manchester United have allegedly shifted the blame for Cristiano Ronaldo’s inflammatory remarks against the club and Erik ten Hag away from the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
In addition, the Red Devils intend to exploit their good relationship with Mendes to reach a civil resolution and avoid a full-scale legal battle.
The previous week, Ronaldo gave a heated interview to talk show presenter Piers Morgan. The former Real Madrid and Juventus forward asserted that he and Ten Hag lack mutual respect and that the club “betrayed” him.
Since then, United has issued a statement saying that the matter is being handled internally, and many believe that Ronaldo has already played his last game at Old Trafford. His return was hailed with much excitement, but he has had to settle for a lesser role this season despite scoring 24 goals in the previous season.
Reports from the Daily Mail reads; despite Mendes’ role in arranging the interview with Morgan, United do not blame the high-profile agent, implying that Ronaldo himself is at fault.

Elsewhere in the extensive interview, the 37-year-old asserted that United youngsters do not obey his instructions and that the club’s infrastructure is inferior to that of other European powerhouses. At this time, the most viable options are to fire Ronaldo for violation of contract or to terminate his contract mutually.
United hopes that pragmatism and their close connection with Mendes will allow them to pursue the second option, so avoiding a potential court struggle. Ronaldo was signed by Manchester United as a youth and earned his first Ballon d’Or at Old Trafford before leaving for Real Madrid in 2009.
Maintaining a positive relationship with Mendes, who represents a number of prominent Premier League players, may also be advantageous for future transfer deals. Among them is the high-flying foursome of Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Joao Cancelo, and Ruben Dias from Manchester City.
Whether Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United is amicable or not, it appears that substantial transfers could be made prior to the conclusion of the World Cup, rather than during the January transfer window. Gary Neville was among the critics who suggested his former club had no choice but to take tangible action after his remarks.
“He wouldn’t have done this interview if he wanted a way back,” Neville told Sky Sports. “He knew it would bring the headlines it has and be the end of his Manchester United career.
“I’m wondering what Manchester United are doing because the reality of it is they know they have to terminate Cristiano’s contract or they basically open up a precedent so any player can criticise them in the future. They could have come together a couple of weeks ago and navigated a pathway through what could have potentially been choppy seas to the shore but it’s not happened.”
