“Thomas Tuchel gave me the platform last season to go and express myself and try to get into the team.
“I remember my debut, the Villarreal game, there was a lot of pressure after he gave me that opportunity but I think I took it with both hands.
“It was my boyhood dream to play for this club and to get the opportunity and win the trophy was unbelievable. That was the opportunity I’d been waiting for. And I took it well.”
The center-back made his debut for Chelsea in the European Super Cup clash against Villarreal on 11 August 2021. He was then given a Premier League debut against Palace, scoring in his first league game for Chelsea.
The 23-year-old made 30 appearances for the Blues in his first season with the club so he definitely has something to thank Tuchel for.
